A Charitable Resolution

The New Year is just hours away and it’s time to start reflecting on your resolutions for the coming year.
For some of us it will be to hit the gym, for others it will be to commit to breaking bad habits like alcohol or narcotics, or even just cutting back on the chocolate. And for a few it will be committing to serving a higher cause than themselves, to giving back to society, and trying to change a life.

It is natural to want to make enough money to secure yours and your children’s future, but it is a kind and noble person who also looks to help those around him. It is true; there is no nobler cause than charity. This New Year, let’s make a resolution to help those in need.

An average amount of just Rs. 750/- can support one child’s Akshaya Patra mid-day meals for one whole year. By committing yourself to helping just one child a year, and renewing that commitment each year, you will be responsible for seeing a child educated for life.

Most little children in India have no hopes for a bright future as their families are too poor to send them to school, or to even put food on the table. They drop out of school to join their parents in their trade or look after their baby siblings at home. They don’t get to run, play and make friends like the other children. They don’t get to learn English, math and science, or more importantly, music, dance and literature – the essence of joy and living.

They may never know what the newspaper says, because they cannot read. They may never get a job as a clerk, because they cannot count. But it’s not because they are stupid. It’s because no one gave them a chance. For just Rs. 750/- a year, you can give them that chance.
